Welcome to this edition of the Tasmanian Photographer |Thomas J. Nevin weblogs. This is a research and publication site about a 19th century Australian photographer developed by descendants, readers, contributors, private collectors and researchers.
Thomas Nevin produced large numbers of stereographs and cartes within his commercial practice, and prisoner ID photographs on government contract. He was one of the first photographers to work with the police in Australia, along with Charles Nettleton (Victoria) and Frazer Crawford (South Australia). His Tasmanian prisoner ID photographs or “mug shots” are the earliest to survive in public collections.
We import documentation and research developed on the main weblog, Thomas J. Nevin at Google Blogger for back-up purposes, different layout options, and wider search engine indexing.
Links in articles viewed here, therefore, will refer you back to other articles on the main weblog, in most cases.
